Crusaders v Hurricanes
The Crusaders beat the Blues last week by 8, though the Blues had a good second half comeback to make the score flattering. The Hurricanes had a tough game against the Reds but came out on top to win by 4 points in the end.
This is the clash of the season, two of the heavyweight favourites going at it with numerous All Blacks on show. This winner of this game could well go on to win the regular season premiership.
Both teams are on massive win streaks with the Hurricanes winning their last 10 and the Crusaders winning their last 8 games. The Crusaders have a prolific home record too winning their last 14 Super Rugby games; ironically their last loss at home was to the Hurricanes in 2016.
The Crusaders are without two of their most important players in this game Sam Whitelock and Ryan Crotty who are both the glue in each the forward pack and backline in my opinion. When these guys don’t play the Crusaders can struggle. The Hurricanes have named a predictable side although Jordie Barrett moves into the centres. The Hurricanes have an almost all, All Black backline.
I think the Hurricanes can steal a win here and break the Crusaders home winning streak.
Rebels v Sunwolves
The Rebels had the bye last week after beating the Brumbies the week prior. The Sunwolves provided another entertaining game with an after the siren drop goal to beat the Stormers.
Well this match has gone off this week. The bookies went up -9.5 earlier in the week and this was hammered out to -24.5 as of Tuesday. The reason for this, the Sunwolves have decided that all of their international players will go into camp this week and will not participate in the next two Super Rugby games. Along with this the coach is not travelling with the team either.
I think the line might be a bit too high at the moment but best to be safe and leave this game alone.
Jaguares v Sharks
The Jaguares continued their winning streak with a strong win against the Bulls last week. The Sharks had a deserved win against a weakened Chiefs lineup.
The Jaguares have now won their last 5 in a row and are now in with a massive chance of a playoff spot this season. The winner of this could make the playoffs and the loser potentially miss out, very important game for both sides.
The Sharks have struggled away from home this season only winning 1 match from 6, though 4 of these losses have been within 7 points. The Sharks have beaten the Jaguares in all 4 matches played, all 4 wins have been by 8 points or less.
Think this will be a close won with either side winning by 7 or less points.
Chiefs v Waratahs
The Chiefs had a depleted team last week against the Sharks and suffered a loss because of it. The Waratahs meanwhile broke the Australian losing streak against their New Zealand counterparts with a strong win against the Highlanders, although the Highlanders were with 14 men for most of the match.
The Waratahs have a decent record against the Chiefs winning 3 of their last 4. Though the Chiefs have a handy record at home this year winning 75% of their home games.
The last two matches played between these sides has also averaged a high 73 points per game, so if the weather is fine on Saturday have a look out for the total.
Not interested in having a bet in this game, too many uncertainties for me.
Reds v Highlanders
The Reds played well in their close loss to the Hurricanes last week. The Highlanders game, you can just put a line through it, they had 14 men for most of the game and at times 13 men. They were never really in the game from that point.
The Reds have won their last 4 home matches against the Highlanders, a pretty good record for an Australian side to have against an NZ side. They’ve played well at home this year winning 3 of their 4 games while the Highlanders have struggled away winning just 2 of 6 away games.
I like the way the Reds played last week, they had an attacking mindset and if they bring that this week to the Highlanders they could potentially win the game (big ask I know!).
Leaning towards the Reds plus for a small bet.
Bulls v Brumbies
The Bulls got hammered by the Jaguares last week after a decent first half effort. The Brumbies go from bad to worse with their 5th loss in a row, this time to the Lions.
The home team has won this fixture in 7 of the last 8 matches. The Brumbies have a horrid away record this season only winning 1 game, this to the lowly ranked Sunwolves.
The Bulls are pretty strong at home this season winning 4 of their 6 home games with losses to the Lions and Highlanders (last minute). This season the Bulls have averaged 30.5 points per game at home.
Not liking anything in this game.
Stormers v Lions
The Stormers suffered a somewhat embarrassing loss to the Sunwolves last week while the Lions had a solid win against the Brumbies.
This is top of the South African conference v the bottom. The Stormers haven’t beaten the Lions in their last 4 attempts dating back to 2015 with 3 losses and 1 draw in that time period. They have been strong at home this year though winning 5 from their last 6 home games. Though looking at their home schedule this year they’ve only beaten Jaguares, Blues, Reds, Rebels and Bulls, hardly anything to write home about.
The Lions have struggled away from home this year winning just 2 of 6 though they’ve had a harder schedule and they have beaten two teams who are better than the Stormers away from home (Bulls and Waratahs).
This traditionally is low scoring with the last 5 matches between these sides in Cape Town a low 36.5 points per game. I think this will be another close game and predicting either side to win by 7 points or under.
