SUPER RUGBY WEEK 14
Hurricanes v Highlanders
Last years finalists battle it out this weekend in the mouth watering encounter. Both sides will want the win desperately going into the June break and will firmly help their chances of qualifying for this years play offs. The Hurricanes had the BYE last week after beating the Reds by 15 points two weeks ago. Looking back at that game it was a mixed performance by the Hurricanes who were rather unsettled that week having lost 5 of their best players due to curfew issues. Meanwhile the Highlanders have won 3 in a row now, beating 3 of the better sides in the comp; Brumbies, Chiefs and Crusaders, all by comfortable margins I might add.
These two teams always have close games, 8 of the last 9 games between these two sides have been decided by 7 points or less, quite remarkable really.
I marked this a pick em game, I really cannot make my mind up who will win. The Hurricanes are slight favourites in the market and that is possibly justified due to the home advantage.
I think this game will be very close again and am picking this game to go within 7 points once again.
Blues v Crusaders
Old foes the Blues v Crusaders play this week for the second time this year. The Crusaders ended up comfortable winners in the earlier fixture this year 28-13.
The Blues have had a fairly easy run in the last few weeks beating the Rebels at home, Kings away and the Force away, all easy beats in my opinion, while in between getting belted by the Lions. The Crusaders on the other hand have played some quality sides, beating the Brumbies away, losing to the Highlanders then beating the Waratahs last week.
The Crusaders have won the last four matches against the Blues which is hardly surprising given the Blues have been woeful in the last few years. I expect nothing less this week, the Blues travel factor is bound to catch up on them having come from Africa to Perth and now back to Auckland. The Crusaders should be relatively fresh playing the last 3 weeks in New Zealand.
I marked this game -11.5 to the Crusaders, the early market opened up -5.5 but was quickly snatched up. The Crusaders should win this game easily going into the International window.
