SUPER RUGBY WEEK 9
Rebels v Cheetahs
Wow, what a spectacle last week between the Cheetahs and the Sunwolves. The Cheetahs running in 14 tries (equal super rugby record) to demolish the Japanese franchise 92-17. The Rebels meanwhile were given a thrashing by the ever improving Hurricanes by 25 points.
These two teams have only played each other a few times with the Cheetahs winning 3 out of 4 of the games. Back in 2014, the Rebels completed their first win against the Cheetahs with a 35-14 thrashing at home. Two very different sides with the Cheetahs playing an ad-lib type game while the Rebels like to play a more structured game.
I think there is a bit of value in the Cheetahs this week, they'll be on a high from last weeks game and the Rebels are becoming a bit too inconsistent for me. If you look at the Cheetahs record this year they've played some good rugby and only lost by a few points to the Bulls and Brumbies sides. Besides the upset against the Waratahs this year the Rebels are failing to convert possession into points and have only scored 42 points in the last 4 games. Take the Cheetahs +6.5 or better and the win.
Sunwolves v Jaguares
This has all the ingredients of a high scoring game. Unfortunately total points markets don't go up until the day of the game, but anything around the 60 mark I'd be confident in an overs game barring any atrocious weather. The two new teams of the competition face off for the first time in Super Rugby history. Both teams struggling massively with the Sunwolves winless and the Jaguares losing their last 6 games. The Jaguares should be battle hardened after a tough run against some quality NZ opposition
I marked this game with the Jaguares 18.5 favourites. The market is slowly getting out towards that mark. I think the value is in the 1st half Handicap market, the last two weeks the Sunwolves have got out the gates incredible slowly, letting in 72 points in the last two games in the first half.
