SUPER RUGBY WEEK 7
Chiefs v Blues
The Battle of the North kicks off Round 7 of the Super Rugby Season. This is always a fierce clash and promises to be no different this weekend. The Blues battled away and got the victory against the Jaguares on the weekend while the Chiefs were very impressive against the Brumbies over in Canberra dismantling the competition favourites by an impressive 25 points.
The Chiefs have won the last 9 matches between the two sides but the margins have always been very close. The Blues will be better for the run last week having just come off a bye the previous week, while the Chiefs travel factor hasn't appeared to affect them as of yet but surely it will catch up with them sooner or later.
History suggests another close game and I think the line for this game has opened up a little too high. I think the Chiefs will win but I also think the Blues will cover the line. Pick 4 Units - Blues +13.5 Line
Force v Crusaders
The Crusaders got the chocolates easily last week although a late try and penalty to the Lions flattered the scoreline a little. The Force were gallant in defeat against the inform Highlanders so they will take a lot of positives out of that match, although scoring tries is their main issue.
The last time the Force played the Crusaders at home they won in a low scoring affair 16-14. While in 2014 the Crusaders thrashed the Force by 23 points at home. Both those fixtures were relatively low scoring games with 37 points or under, not typical of the high scoring Super Rugby we're used to.
The Crusaders are doing the mid distance trip on their way back to New Zealand so not a terribly long flight to Perth for this game, compared to what they would fly if they were flying all the way home. The Crusaders have named 5 changes to last weekends side with All Black Sam Whitelock coming into the side from the bench last week.
The Crusaders should be too much for the Force here, I don't think they will thrash them though, I'm convinced it will be another low scoring match with a huge defensive effort from both teams. Pick 2 Units - Crusaders 12 and Under
Stormers v Sunwolves
The Sunwolves were a touch unlucky not to cover the line last week going down to the Kings by 5 points. A scrum on their own line which resulted in a tight head, then a try, spoiling the chance for a Sunwolves cover. The Stormers had a welcome Bye after a tough first five games of the season.
Obviously no previous form between the two sides to go off so we have to go off what we've seen this year. The Stormers haven't scored a hell of a lot of points this year with an average of 22 points per game, however have been the best defensively only giving up 11 points on average per game. Alternatively the Sunwolves much the same with 22 points per game but their defence the issue leaking an average of 31 points per game.
The Stormers have made a host of changes due to both injury and resting policy that the South African teams have adopted this year. More of note is the fact the Stormers are starting with two new players in the 9 and 10 jerseys.
I think the Sunwolves should cover the line this week, it opened up around +24 but has since moved to +28.5 which I think is a little too high given the fact the Stormers attacking is not that strong this year. Pick 4 Units - Sunwolves +28.5 or better Line
