Hurricanes v Highlanders

At the start of the season nobody in their right mind would have picked these two sides to be contesting the final but both well and truly deserve to be here and it promises to be a very entertaining game as both sides have plenty of points in them.

I'm leaning towards the Hurricanes to win this with a huge home ground advantage, along with the fact they've got more game-breakers throughout their side and they'll still be riding the wave of emotion generated through the death of Jerry Collins. The Highlanders success has come off the back of dominance from their top three players – Smith, Smith and Feketoa – and the key here for the Canes will be reducing their influence as much as possible which they have a capable enough defence to do so.

This match is also the last in Hurricanes colours for stalwarts Conrad Smith / Ma'a Nonu whose devastating pairing in the centres will be a big factor here against the much less experienced Highlanders pairing of Feketoa / Buckman; with any decent room provided to their dangerous outside backs – Savea, Milner-Skudder and Marshall - likely to lead to points.

The battle up front should be fairly evenly contested but the class and experience of the Hurricanes backline will be the difference, along with their stoic defensive line which will be buoyed on by the capacity crowd. Pick – 5 units on Hurricanes -5.5 point start
