A-LEAGUE SEMI FINALS
SYDNEY FC V PERTH GLORY
The elimination finals saw Perth easily dispose of a lacklustre and disappointing Melbourne City in what was always a one sided game. Diego Castro opened the scoring just after the 15min mark by easily gliding past two defenders and then somehow he was allowed the space to simply slot the ball in the bottom corner. The defending was very poor and it got worse for City when Chianese doubled the lead with another twist, turn and simple bottom corner finish. Perth then were content with protecting the lead and only really pushing forward when they had too, thus forcing City to chase them game.
They now have to face the runaway leaders and record breakers in Sydney FC. Not much else can be said about the Sydney squad this year, I think all the superlatives have been used. They were simply brilliant all year and I doubt very highly that they'll stumble at this hurdle.
Looking back at the results between the two squads throughout the last few encounters and it's all Sydney. Five games, five wins. They scored 3 or more goals on four of those occasions and utterly dominated every one of those matches. February 2013 was the last time Perth tasted victory against Sydney and they'll have to wait a bit longer for that stat to be changed.
Sydney are the dominant squad and they have been all season. Perth have started playing very well at the right time but Sydney have been playing well all season. It won't stop here.
MELBOURNE VICTORY V BRISBANE ROAR
This match will be a lot closer than the Sydney/Perth match as Brisbane have the knack of finding late winners and equalisers in crunch games, ask Central Coast fans about Erik Paartalu and see if that brings back memories. Then you have Melbourne Victory who are always a threat in whatever fixture in whatever season. They are the pinnacle of consistency and with the ruthless Muscat at the helm, you get that sense that the Victory players will be more worried about the repercussions from the manager then the fans if they don't get the job done here
I can't see any clear cut winner or result here. Both teams have major claims and fantastic attack minded squads that can press and score all day. Roar boasting the likes of Maclaren and Holman, even if the latter is a tad bit sporadic in his performances, he still manages to produce when needed. Melbourne have Besart Berisha, Marco Rojas as well as the ultra-impressive James Troisi. These are names that are consistently getting on the scoresheet and causing problems for every defence in the league and one of these men is what we base this play off.
Besart Berisha. He will start, he will be itching to get on the scoresheet against a club that once cheered his name,, he will take penalties and no doubt be in every decent scoring position there is. He always looks to score and has a killer instinct in front of goal. I think Melbourne are deserved favourites but their price is rubbish so we look outside the box somewhat and find value with the Kosovo international to score first. Risky bet but he's the man you'd want to be on to score. All in Berisha.
