NRL ROUND 21
Dragons v Warriors
Both these sides have been on the slide in the second half of the season but it’s the Warriors who are at risk of missing the finals if they can’t get another couple of wins whilst the Dragons are safe.
With some big names returning for the Warriors in Blair, Hiku, Luke and Harris they are going to be a much more dangerous side than that which took the field in their embarrassing loss to the Titans last week and there is a big bounce-back factor here as they’ve had a settled week having stayed on in Australia and will be nursing some seriously wounded egos.
With Luke back controlling the ruck the Warriors will be much more urgent in everything they do, throw in the work rate of Harris and Blair and those players are going to lift the squad which should see Green and Johnson have plenty of good front foot ball to work with in the halves. I sense an upset could be on the cards here but we’ll play it safe as it is the Warriors after all and settle with the point start. Pick - 3 units on Warriors +7.5 point start
Eels v Titans
Wow who would have guessed that with just a few weeks left in the season the Eels would be sitting at the bottom of the ladder with just four wins to their name.
This match shapes as an absolute must win for the Eels if they are indeed to avoid the wooden spoon; the Titans have been erratic all season and struggled to back up a good performance which will be the challenge for them here after thrashing the Warriors at home last week.
We’ve said it all year just how good the Eels side looks on paper which has made their 2018 plight all the more confusing but they have certainly shown life of late with several strong performances and I expect them to come out very strong here and dominate the Titans. Pick - 4 units on Eels -2.5 point start (BEST BET)
Sharks v Sea Eagles
The Sea Eagles bounced back last week after their thrashing at the hands of the Roosters to come within a whisker of beating the Panthers, leading by 18 points at one stage but were run down late. What Manly did show, and what they've shown in patches throughout the season, was that they are a very dangerous side when they show up to play, capable of challenging most teams in the competition.
With the wooden spoon a real possibility for four sides, the Sea Eagles being one of them, every match is shaping as a possibility of getting out of the danger zone and Manly are a very proud club that's never had the wooden spoon so they will be desperate in the closing rounds to make sure the side of 2018 don't make unwanted history.
Whilst the Sharks are safely in the top eight (6th) they don't have a side, barring a few big names, that would have many pundits believing they'll go far in the finals and look wanting in some key positions with their halves/centres not exactly setting the world on fire and an aging forward pack that's been quiet.
The start here for Manly looks too large for mine as they won't be lacking in motivation and have a side that's very capable of mixing it with the Sharks, particularly up front and in the halves where Cherry-Evans and Walker could really cause some damage. Take the Sea Eagles with the start. Pick - 4 units on Sea Eagles +9.5 point start
