NRL ROUND 20
Broncos v Sharks
The Broncos came through in style for us last week in obliterating the Panthers, easily covering the point start in the process and once again we're going to back them to cover another narrow line against a fellow top-eight side in the Sharks.
The Broncos performance in the first half last week was astounding, completing 20 of 21 sets, with a number of their players making a huge statement - Pangai Junior being one of them as he was simply devastating up the middle. The Broncos backline, particularly the halves also had a much needed confidence boost as they had one of their better games of the season and all up the side goes into this clash high on confidence and with a top four spot within their grasps.
The Sharks beat the Raiders 28-24 last week in an impressive effort but I just can't help but feel the Broncos will have the measure of them at Suncorp Stadium and with the huge dose of confidence they gained from last weeks effort. Pick - 3 units on Broncos -1.5 point start
Bulldogs v Tigers
The Tigers are all of a sudden looking like the form side of the competition after stringing together two impressive victories on the trot with last weeks thrashing of the Rabbitohs adding another top four skelp to their season tally.
With Farah and Benji reunited they’ve clearly taken well to being joint leaders of the Tigers both on and off the field and it's no coincidence that Farah's return to the club has seen their upturn in form which could well see them end up playing finals footy.
The less said about the Bulldogs the better, their season has been riddled with on and off field controversy and to say they'll be struggling for motivation here is an understatement; not even this local derby is likely to spark any sort of life into them.
It's tough to see where the Bulldogs points will come from but not so for the Tigers as their forward pack has grown an extra leg since Farah's return and Benji / Brooks have been dynamic in the halves steering what is a very dangerous backline. We'll take the Tigers to cover the start and keep the pressure on the top eight. Pick - 4 units on Tigers -6.5 point start (BEST BET)
Sea Eagles v Panthers
After coming within a whisker of beating the Storm two weeks ago the Sea Eagles backed that up with arguably their worst performance of the season, being absolutely thrashed by a very good Roosters side. That loss to the Roosters came at home and was met with booing from the majority of fans which is a bitter pill to swallow and has prompted some soul searching and a productive honesty session from the players which often leads to dramatic turnarounds.
The inclusion of Walker and Taufua will help the Sea Eagles cause here, as will the fact they're coming up against a Panthers side that has been struggling over the past six weeks and show no immediate signs of steadying the ship.
There's not a lot to add here, the Sea Eagles will be looking at this as a golden opportunity to very quickly restore some pride in the jersey and they're good enough to be a threat to any side in the competition on their day and this should be their day! Pick - 3 units on Sea Eagles to win
Titans v Warriors
This early afternoon clash has all the makings of a very high-scoring affair with the Titans defence the second worst in the competition, add to that the good conditions forecast and the fact the Titans looked like they'd discovered some attacking form last week in clocking up 24 points against the Knights, albeit in a losing effort!
The return of Green and Harris for the Warriors is huge given their influence on the early season attack of the Warriors and I can see both players stamping their mark here through Greens precision kicking game and Harris's edge running and off-loading - all contributing to a dangerous attack.
The Warriors should win this as they'll simply have too many points in them with Johnson and co likely to wreak havoc on the right edge but the Titans have points in them too and the Warriors defence has been opened up many times this year. We'll back a try-fest here. Pick - 4 units on total combined points ‘over’ 44.5
