NRL ROUND 16
Warriors v Sharks
Both these sides are missing key personnel but it’s the Warriors who are worst affected with Luke, Blair, Hiku and Maumalo out leaving some big gaps to be filled. The Sharks are without Graham and Lewis in the forwards but receive a huge boost in the form of Aaron Woods who has been named to play his first game for the Sharks and will without doubt be looking to make a big impact at his new club.
I can’t help but feel without Luke there to control the ruck for the Warriors they’re going to struggle with his replacement Lawton lacking the dynamism that Luke posses; Gelling is another player that will be under a heap of pressure as the inexperienced youngster is thrown in the deep end at centre.
The Sharks have an all round better look about them for mine; their forward pack will have taken note of what some of the other packs have done to the Warriors up the middle this season and the likes of Woods, Gallen and Fifita are likely to have huge games. Sharks to win but it shouldn’t be a blow out and we’ll take the value in the margins. Pick - 3 units on Sharks to win by 12 points and under
Panthers v Sea Eagles
The Panthers could make a mess of the Sea Eagles here if the visitors don’t turn up with the right attitude, given how inconsistent they have been it’s anyone’s guess as to which Manly side will show up.
One thing that is for sure is that this match will be played on a nice dry track in great afternoon conditions and given both sides attacking capabilities I can definitely see plenty of tries being scored. If Manly are not 100% committed on defence the Panthers will run through them like turnstiles and could well pass the combined total points line on their own.
You can see where I’m heading with this - we’ll back the attack of both sides to blow the total points line out of the park in great conditions for running footy. Pick - 4 units on total combined points ‘over’ 42.5 (BEST BET)
Knights v Bulldogs
What a shambles the Bulldogs season has turned into with salary cap dramas, players being let go, general underperformance and team disharmony, things couldn’t be any worse really. With all that in mind it’s hard to see the Bulldogs being up for this encounter against a Knights side who will be desperate to bank the win against a side they should get the better of.
Ponga will once again be the man to watch for the Knights and he will without doubt trouble this weak and uncommitted Bulldogs defence who leaked 32 points last time out against the Titans.
The Knights should be far too good at home against this green looking Bulldogs side that’s in full crisis mode. Pick - 4 units on Knights -5.5 point start
