NRL ROUND 14
Titans v Rabbitohs
The Bunnies have named their origin stars to play here, whether all of them take the field or not won’t be a huge factor as they showed in easily accounting for the Sharks last week the great depth they do have in their squad.
The Burgess brothers have been absolutely collossesus this season with few teams being able to stop them monstering their way up the middle and I can’t see it being any different here against a Titans side with a terrible defensive record.
We’ll take the combined points line to go ‘overs’ as both sides can certainly attack and the Titans in particular can be opened up with ease particularly with their forward pack getting dominated as they will be here. Pick - 3 units on total combined points ‘over’ 44.5 or better
Sea Eagles v Warriors
The Sea Eagles have been a tough side to get a gauge on this season with mostly below par performances mixed in with some scintillating wins over decent opposition so just what we’re going to get from them here is a mystery, hence their underdog status against a side they’ve mostly owned over the past decade.
What we’ve seen from the Warriors over the past six or so games will be worrying for their fans as they’ve often times looked like the Warriors of seasons gone by - soft up the middle, general lack of enthusiasm and schoolboy errors - all of which were on display as they were schooled against the Rabbitohs and Roosters.
The plan from the Sea Eagles will be fairly simple here - bash the Warriors up the middle - unfortunately for the Sea Eagles though they don’t have a terribly formidable pack (with a few exceptions Taupau being an obvious one) and the Warriors will be desperate to respond to the recent criticism their pack has faced.
This is a Sea Eagles ‘home’ game being played in Christchurch which could backfire on them as it’s going to be cold and unwelcoming with a crowd that’ll be right behind the full strength Warriors side who welcome back Johnson at halfback. We’ll take the Warriors to cover the narrow start. Pick - 3 units on Warriors -4.5 or better point start
Sharks v Tigers
The Sharks were very disappointing last week against an understrength Rabbitohs side as their six game winning streak came to an end and they’ll have had a tough week of training as Flanagan will have put them through the wringer …. So expect a drastic improvement here!
Man for man there’s a gulf between these sides as the Sharks have a more hardened pack and should have it over the Tigers; meanwhile the Sharks backline with Holmes, Townsend and Moylan will capitalise on any momentum their forwards gain up front.
Despite their fast start to the season the Tigers are not a top-eight side whilst the Sharks are and there’ll be a double-digit margin here to reflect the difference in quality between the sides. Pick – 4 units on Sharks -6.5 or better point start (BEST BET)
