NRL FINALS WEEK 1
Roosters v Broncos
The loss of Boyd is obviously a big blow for the Broncos but Nikorima is a handy player to replace him at fullback and with Marshall coming into the halves they have a player that’s been there done that on the big stage and who should provide a steadying hand on attack.
I’ve not been overawed by the Roosters of late, sure they’ve been winning but they’ve hardly set the world on fire and whilst they probably deserve the favouritism based on the fact they’re playing in Sydney the Broncos are going to pose a huge challenge for them.
There was a lot of work done in the Broncos camp after the Eels embarrassed them two weeks back and their defence will be watertight here, they pride themselves on shutting sides down and will be confident in containing the somewhat predictable Roosters attack.
We’ll take the good value on the Broncos to win here, they’re stacked with big game players that have plenty of finals experience, particularly up front, and I believe they’ll be too clinical for the Roosters. Pick – 2 units on Broncos to win
Storm v Eels
This Storm side is right up there with some of the best teams to have played in this competition and there’s been daylight between them and the rest of the clubs; I don’t see that changing here in fact they’re that professional and full of confidence they may even find another gear which is a scary thought for Eels fans.
It’s hard not to admire the Eels and the way they’ve excelled expectations this season with Brad Arthur moulding a side that’s full of heart and play a tough brand of footy but they’re fairly green when it comes to playing finals footy and I just feel the Storm are going to overwhelm them on both attack and defence here.
Not much more to add with this one, the bookies have given the Eels a decent start but they’ll be frustrated by the Storm defence and mistakes will come which is not good news against this quality side. Pick – 4 units on Storm to win by 13+ (BEST BET)
Sea Eagles v Panthers
The Sea Eagles absolutely dominated the Panthers last week by rolling through them up the middle and then going wide which left the Panthers defence scrambling and I can’t see the Panthers turning things around in a hurry here.
The line for the Sea Eagles to cover is low here considering what happened last week and one has to wonder where the Panthers heads will be at after the rift between Moylan and Griffin has been publicly aired.
I can see a repeat of last week’s effort from the Panthers where they didn’t have any answers to what the Sea Eagles threw at them; meanwhile the Sea Eagles have their tails up and will look to engage the same tactics that saw them run out very comfortable winners only a matter of days ago. Pick –3 units on Sea Eagles -4.5 or better point start
Sea Eagles -4.03 at 1.90-3
