Round Twenty AFL Picks

AFL ROUND 20

Adelaide Crows v Port Adelaide Power

Our first game of round twenty and we’re taking aim at the 45th edition of the Showdown clash between the Adelaide Crows and the Port Adelaide Power. Adelaide took a critical hit to the final’s aspirations last week when they were unable to roll the Melbourne Demons over in Adelaide. The 8-point swing of the game meant that Melbourne was able to separate themselves from Adelaide and further keep them out of the 8 for another week. Port Adelaide got their season back on track by accounting for the Western Bulldogs last Sunday in miserable conditions. Prior to that, Port had lost two in a row and were in serious jeopardy of losing touch with the top 4 of the ladder.

In our first upset of the weekend, we’re going to be taking the Adelaide Crows here straight up. Being able to hang about with the Demons was impressive enough for us to think that the Crows have reasonable enough form to get the job done here. Port on the other hand, has had questionable form over the past month having gone down to Freo in W.A and then being belted by the Giants the following week. Port may have the yips and could just be scaring themselves out of playing their best footy.

Sydney Swans v Collingwood Magpies

Our second game for the round will see the Swans and the Pies do battle on Saturday afternoon. The Swans have had a horrid fortnight, going down to the Gold Coast Suns and the Bombers in consecutive. Consequently, the Swans are now in serious threat of missing the finals for the first time in a very long time of their storied history. The Magpies were humbled last week by the reigning premiers when they took the contest right up to them. Collingwood were down by 4 points at the final break before finally succumbing to the Tigers.

Quickly proving to be the team that we simply can’t catch, we’ve backed the Swans back to back weeks in the past fortnight and they have soured us on both occasions. A lot of speculation has circled around whether this may be the beginning of the end of the Swans and though we don’t think so, we do think the may get caught again here against the Pies. The Pies have been able to cover their injuries all year and could just about do it again. Take the Pies to win here and heap the misery on the Swans and their September action.

Melbourne Demons v Gold Coast Suns

Sunday football and we’ve got the Melbourne Demons who return from Adelaide after staving off a gallant Crows outfit. This was an important win for the Demons who had their hearts broken a week prior to the Cats. The Suns will look to get through the rest of the season unscathed after they were embarrassed by cellar dwellers Carlton last week on their own home patch.

The Demons are the prolific ‘downhill skiers’ and should live up to their name on Sunday afternoon football. The Suns will look to stem any sort of bleeding they’re inevitably going to endure but when the Demons know they need percentage and premiership points, we don’t see the Suns being able to put up much resistance. Expect the Demons to win , win well and really add to their percentage tally as they continue their march towards September action.
