SUPER RUGBY WEEK 13
Crusaders v Waratahs
The Crusaders were given a wake up call last weekend as the Highlanders produced an exceptional display to beat the Crusaders 34-26 in Dunedin. The Waratahs on the other hand stringed together their fourth win in a row defeating the Bulls 31-8 in a one sided match.
In the last 5 games dating back to 2011 the Crusaders hold a 3-2 win rate against the Waratahs. Generally high scoring games with an average of 57 points over the 5 games. If the points opens around the 51-52 mark or less I would be inclined to back the overs.
The Waratahs are starting to look like a really well drilled team. They have sorted out their attacking which had let them down early on in the season, adapting to a fast paced NZ style game. Their defence has also held up over the last two weeks, only letting in one try in two games.
The Crusaders hit a bit of a speed bump last week and they'll be hungry to get the points against the Waratahs this weekend. A great game to kick off the round and I think it will be closer than expected but the Crusaders should come away with the win - just.
Chiefs v Rebels
The Chiefs had the bye last week after losing to the Highlanders the week before. Whist the Rebels were ok against the Brumbies but coming out losers by 8 points.
In the last four games between the two sides the Chiefs have won 3-1, with the Rebels upsetting the Chiefs at home last year 16-15. The Chiefs last three victories have all been within 6 points or less, they're not putting away teams like they were previously in the competition. The Rebels have been fairly inconsistent this year and have had some pretty close losses in matches that in theory, should have lost by a lot more.
I think this will be closer than what the market has settled on. Im predicting the Chiefs will win but the Rebels will cover the start.
Rebels +16.53 at 1.92-3
Rebels +16.53 at 1.92-3
Bulls v Stormers
Probably the biggest match of the round in terms of importance of winning for both sides. The Bulls and Stormers currently sit 1 and 2 in Africa 1 Conference. At this point in time only 1 team from this conference is in the top 8 of qualifying with the Stormers being that team.
You somewhat get the feeling these two teams have held back of recent, potentially looking to this game as the one they need to win. Both teams are a touch out of form with the Stormers very lucky to get the draw against the Sunwolves in Singapore last week and the Bulls looking terrible against a quality Waratahs team last weekend.
The Stormers have had the upper hand over the Bulls in the last few years, winning the last 4 games, including a 33-9 thrashing earlier on this year.
I really think the Stormers will be very embarrassed by last weeks draw to the lowly Sunwolves and will rally together to beat the Bulls in this game.
