North to push Tigers

AFL FINALS WEEK ONE

West Coast v Hawthorn

What an interesting encounter we have to kick off the 2015 finals series. West Coast have earned a well-deserved top-2 spot and home final. They have come up as a small dog, which having marked this up as pick, does represent a touch of value.

The Hawks have won their last five against West Coast and Subiaco holds no fear, having split their last six at the venue. There does look to be a strong chance of a few showers around. This will only add weight to the lean I have for this being a close match.

Western Bulldogs v Adelaide

The Bulldogs really are hard done by not to have a final at their favoured Etihad. They are 3-3 at the 'G' since '12, splitting matches with Richmond and Melbourne. Having said that, Adelaide are just 2-5 here since their '12 Preliminary final loss to Hawthorn.

As good as the Bulldogs have been in this season, a lack of September experience may prove the decisive factor. Adelaide look to have the class edge up forward and I think they should be starting shorter. Play down to 1.75.

Richmond v North Melbourne

What a massive Sunday arvo match this promises to be. Only time will tell whether Brad Scott did the right thing by resting a huge chunk of the team last week against the Tigers. They have a 41-point deficit to turn around, but they now have very close to their best 22 on the park. Their edge in experience has to count for something at this time of the year.

The Tigers have a bit of a psychological hurdle to overcome after being thrashed by Port in week one of the finals last year. I'm just not sure that they are mentally up to it. I do think this one will go down to the wire however and have to have a nibble at the Roos start.
